A Century of Excellence: The Centennial Campaign for Eta Chapter

The undergraduate brothers of the Eta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi are officially getting a new home.  Construction is officially underway.  Over the last four years, the alumni board and campaign committee have worked diligently to design a plan that would accomplish all of our goals. As we have assessed the environment on campus, we see that an extensive renovation project would limit the changes that we would have been able to make in the facility. We feel strong ties to the old chapter house, but we recognize change is necessary. The house is old and has endured decades of Alpha Sigs calling it home. We have decided to tear down the existing structure to make way for a more effective facility. Our new plans include a chapter house facade that resembles the house that stood at 211 E Armory since 1928.

Repositioning the house on the lot will maximize parking and space to expand in the future, and an open floor plan will allow for multifunction areas. The architectural plans are viewable under Site Plans. Several versions of this project needed to be explored in order to make the correct decision for the future of Eta Chapter. With this final design, we were able to create a house that functions well on many levels. It is a buildable, efficient design that wastes very little space while providing individual student living/work spaces and numerous areas for brotherhood gatherings. This design meets all applicable life-safety and accessibility requirements while providing the necessities for today’s and tomorrow’s campus housing, such as parking and suitestyle living. The design also references the rich past of Alpha Sigma Phi at the University of Illinois while marketing to today’s student. At this milestone, we have an obligation to consider measures that will keep Eta Chapter the best chapter at the University of Illinois and the chapter house as the symbol of pride and tradition for Eta Chapter for another 100 years.

We want to thank all alumni for your support of the new Eta Chapter house; we could not be at this stage in the project right now if it weren’t for all of your generosity. It is up to Eta Chapter alumni to support our undergraduate brothers and ensure they can return to the chapter house in a timely manner. That’s where we ask you to step in. We need your support to complete the above work to the house. We depend on all of you to provide for our younger members as our elder members provided for us. Thank you again for your loyalty to Eta Chapter.
